BTS Manual: Effects of Damage
Mechs
In the event you take some hits, it's good to know what's critical and what's not. Every Mech has multiple systems and components. You can manually display percentages of component damage.

Heat
Although not damage in itself, heat can cause other systems to malfunction or shutdown. At high heat levels, movement rate is affected, but can be reversed by allowing the heat to dissipate. At critical heat levels (full red circle around reticle) the system may automatically shutdown to protect the components and to accelerate heat dispersion. This can leave you motionless on the battlefield until safe heat levels have been reached. At critical heat levels, ammunition can explode doing critical damage to the Mech. To reduce the likelyhood of an ammunition explosion, be sure to jettison any unusable ammunition. Be aware that jettisoning ammunition takes time and you are still vulnerable during the process.

Engine
Your Mech's engine can absorb two hits before being destroyed. However, the power output is reduced by each hit.
Cooling
The heatsink cooling system can become damaged, reducing its efficiency. As the system is damaged, it will take longer to dissipate the heat generated by combat.
Gyro
The gyroscopes in your Mech are necessary to keep it upright and mobile. While it can absorb one hit, a second will leave you motionless on the battlefield.
Sensors
Your sensors gather information about your Mech and the surrounding area. Even with redundant systems, damage to the sensors will result in loss of some or all information gathered by them.
Walk
The smooth operation of your Mech requires precise movement from thousands of individual parts. As these parts are damaged, it takes more power to move them, resulting in a loss of movement speed. Unlike, the movement reduction caused by heat buildup, damage to the components is permanent until they can be repaired.
Vehicles
In the event you take some hits, it's good to know what's critical and what's not. Every Vehicle has multiple systems and components. You can manually display percentages of component damage.
Toggle damage display
Engine
Your vehicle's engine is destroyed by the first hit, leaving your systems operational, with the exception of movement.
Drive Train
Your vehicle's drive train or movement mechanism can sustain several hits, however each hit will reduce the mobility of the vehicle.
Sensors
Your sensors gather information about your Mech and the surrounding area. Even with redundant systems, damage to the sensors will result in loss of some or all information gathered by them.
